The National Public Radio and Television (NPRT) stations could cease transmission because of their debts toward state-run Radiocomunicatii company. The Teleradio Moldova Council of Observers asks the National Agency for the Protection of Competition to verify the legality and fairness of fees for services that Radiocommunicatii requested. The NPRT has a 22-million-leu debt to Radiocommunicatii.
From the beginning of this year, the national public and radio stations paid about one million lei for current expenses. Council of Observers President Eugen Ribca said that the company does not have the necessary funds to pay for debts because the company's budget for 2010 is worth about 55 million lei, including 30 million for salaries. "There is a risk that Radiocomunicatii will cut off the national public and TV stations, or the companies could just continue to accrue debts," Mr. Ribca argues.
